Broken Republic By Arundhati Roy

Broken Republic -
Heart of India is on fire from 1960's onwards. The battle is fought against the people of India itself. This battle is between the superpower of the world's and one of the marginalised section of society mostly tribal's of India.
Communist party of India (Marxist) led the movement to free people of Odisha, west Bengal, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh etc. from the government established institutions. Blood shed in the democratic country with their on people is big dent on Indian democracy. The steps of government to counter them with welfare schemes and various forces is all in vain as situation is getting worse and some time in control because of the local politics and benefits of the big giant player in this region as it dominates the largest region of India's mineral resources. 
Arundhati Roy with his personal appearance with the comrades in these thick forests written long and breadth of this war against the government.

WALKING WITH THE COMRADES By ARUNDHATI ROY

INDIA- A vast nation with diverse groups of people who belong not only to different cultures and community but also from different backgrounds.
INDIA divided in culture, caste, race, religion, place, community, rich, poor etc. But In India one thing is comman that is our constitution which binds the whole society. As our preamble says - 
'' WE THE PEOPLE... '' which contains the liberty, equality, fraternity in all spheres of people life. 
And from here starts a dilemma in this vast nation if people's feel asides themselves from this constitution or in case feel separated from the main line of nation. 
THERE starts the movement against the government which results in militancy in nation as in  North East, punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and one of the largest group in India the Left Wing terrorism. This is the story of these people. 
Walking with the comrades -  Is arundhati roy personal visit to life of these comrade. She has interviewed many of them and talk about their life. The battle which is going between the Democratic government and the India biggest internal security challenge is being cover by her.

A New Milestone in Dalit Literature -
Omprakash Valmiki stories in dalit Literature deals with the sensitiveness and experience that he come forward.
He explains about the pain and suffering that peoples face from centuries. 
SALAAM-
It is ritual in the society in which new married dalit couple goes to the brahmin family for theirs blessings. In which they face hashed behaviour, cruelty, mockery and insult from them. This is in real terms truly humiliating and killing one self respect. Stories moves forward with the struggle of a married couple and challenges they are upto in their life.
Omprakash Valmiki - His writing create special space for dalit Literature and at the same time raises question about inhuman practices prevailing in the society.

SAFAI DEVTA - A book on historical, cultural and social life of valmiki community.
As the word define itself these are people who devote their whole life on cleaning the  excretion of society and in return they never get the respect which they deserve.
This book cover the story of valmiki community often known as bhangi. Their life in each historical, cultural and social aspect. The hardship, atrocities, dismissal from the society they have come too. 
Beginning from the point - 
Historically it is about how the whole system developed and in how many sub caste a scheduled caste is divided, with different names in the valmiki community is also present at different part of country.
This book in length and breadth discuss the status of valmiki community. 
Culturally in valmiki's we see they don't have as strong base as brahmin were and the society is full of spiritual inhuman practices. Illiteracy in society is the most important reason for the prevailing condition of valmiki society.
As in society we see it is based on varna system (Brahman, khsatriya, vaisya, shudra) and the valmiki status is of shudra which is also consider as the untouchables. This creates a havoc situation for them. The economic situation is also one reason for their condition in society. 
These are some aspect which this book cover thoroughly which makes it a must read for the our society, If we really want to see some change. The interesting part of this book is, it also deal with the problem and solutions of valmiki community.

जूठन Autobiography - Omprakash Valmiki


A Great milestone in dalit Literature which is rewarded at various stages. An autobiography of Om prakash valmiki (जूठन) is must read for every one who want to know about the condition of dalit in independent India.
About the book-
जूठन comes in two part - 
In First Part - It deal with the life of Om prakash valmiki, when where and in which condition he was born and live? The atrocities of life he face in childhood and adolescent. In which environment a whole dalit community is forced to live?
In Second Part - After the death of vibrant prime minister and with new young leadership in command, the Omprakash valmiki write about the journey of his life in ordinance factory job in dehradun.
This is time when he face more pain and suffering from his colleagues which are on the same post as him but with different caste. With different varna systems in community and he comes from the dalit society, he fight with the life and overcome them.
THIS book in real sense a great journey of dalit man who live a life with many challenges in his life. 
To quote him - Really to write जूठन is not less than facing torture. Every word of जूठन revive my wounds more, which i want to forget.
